And so it begins. Another transit of the Moon through the sidereal zodiac.
Today the Moon is new (dark) in the sign of Cancer with the nakshatra Punarvasu. Punarvasu translates as The Return of the Light, Home Again, Safe Again.
Through our yoga, restorative and peace practices, eventually we experientially will come to know that home really is in the heart. This phrases isn’t a metaphor for something that has to do with our families and our physical home. However, life lived pulls us in that direction, caring and tending to our loved ones.
Eventually we come to find that when we are caring for others selflessly, without agenda, we are actually caring for ourselves and in this knowing we find that we have Returned Home, The Light Has Returned, We Are Safe in Our Heart.
We are free.
We are whole.
We are expansion itself.
And we understand that nothing was ever, or could ever be, lost.
(But we will forget again, just so we can re-member.)
Today, at the New Moon time, we sow seeds of intention for the blessing of this new opportunity to re-member and grow. Growth begins in the darkness, in the womb, in the hard times when we feel like we cannot see our way out.
In that time of unknowing and needing mercy, we may find the hand of our inner teacher that can lead us to safety. That inner teacher resides in our heart.
One of the key symbols of Punarvasu is a quiver that holds arrows. This quiver is special as it is always full. The arrows magically reappear thus we are always prepared to take aim for our heart’s desire. We need to reach back, take our ammunition, apply our drishti (focus), and release that arrow into the ethers toward our heart’s desire. We must take action - this isn’t fantasy.
In restorative yoga nidra class, we have been working with creating an intention for this next quarter of classes. Whether we are looking at a cycle of the moon (30 days), a season (3 months), a year, a transit, a karmic cycle (6-20 years), or a lifetime, there are layers and layers of cycles we are going through and the new moon, especially in Punarvasu, is as good time as any to contemplate, verbalize or write down (physical form) your heart’s desire, and offer it up to the flame of your heart (and burn it so it merges with the ethers).
Whether you are in class with me, or practicing at home, today and tomorrow are perfect times to take this practice on.
These are the types of practices I offer weekly in our class, along with gentle movement and guided meditation journeys (Yoga Nidra). They are transformative. If you would like to be on the waitlist for when a class opens up, message me to get on the list. The current series is currently full but if/when enough people are ready, I’ll add a second class.
